Ilene's first marriage was to John McCarthy, Jr. They were married 50 years when he died on March 18, 1997 in Winter Haven, FL at the age of 74. His body was taken back to VA for services and burial. Service was at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 1997. Pastor Danny Wright officated. Interment was at Sherwood Memorial Park. He was survived by Ilene and their daughters, Ruth "Ruthie" Chapman & Martha "Marty" Kelleher, 6 grandchildren, brother, William E. McCarthy, and sisters, Ruth Virginia Bursey, Patricia Collins and Ramona Childers. He was preceded in death by daughters Ava Sauer, Debbi Cantrell and son, Robert "Bobby" McCarthy.
Ilene's second marriage was to Dr. Everett L. Duncan. She was visiting her daughter, Ruthie, in Palm Desert, CA when she died. She had had a mini stroke and was doing fine. They wanted to do a heart nuclear test on her, and when they did, she died just after it was completed. Ruthie has a home in Palm Desert and also in Roanoke, VA.
She was preceded in death by the same children as mentioned above for her husband and was survived by Dr. Everett L. Duncan and her daughters, Ruthie and Marti. By then Marti was married, and her last name was Hollingsworth.
Ilene was buried beside 1st husband and father of their five children, John McCarthy, with Everett's blessings.

Ilene Sizemore McCarthey Duncan, 77, of Davenport Florida, died Thursday, March 31, 2005 in Palm Desert, California.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. Everett L. Duncan, Sr.; daughters, Ruth Chapman and her husband Jim, and Martha Hollingsworth and her husband Skip; six grandchildren all survive.
Services will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel on Monday, April 4, 2005 at 1 a.m. with the Rev. Sand McCormick officiating. Interment to follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 723 Glenco Dr. Hwy 27N, Davenport, Fla. 33897.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel."
