This, however is an error as it should read "correctly" as "March 1, 1870."
His gravestone had fancy ornate script on it where the 7 had a fancy tail that curved up around almost like an 8. Someone quickly reading and recording stones could err, but a careful reading shows the "8" in 1870 is clearly different than the "7."
