Services for Gust Engstrand, 83 years of age, were held Saturday, November 23, 1957, at 1:30 pm at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel Monson officiating. M. A. Heiling sang, “Jesus, Savior Pilot Me" and "Abide with Me” accompanied by Mrs. Kenneth Hawkinson, organist. Casketbearers were John, Richard and Ronald Hawkinson, Darwin Engstrand, Paul Lassen, all grandsons and Fordyce Johnson, an intimate friend of the family. Burial was in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery, Lindstrom.
Gust Engstrand was born in Sweden, July 4, 1874. He came to the United States at the age of 21 years. After spending some years in North Dakota where on March 3, 1900, he married Ingeborg Gunderson and they came to Minnesota to a farm near Shafer, where they lived until Mrs. Engstrand passed away in 934. He retired after his wife's death and made his home with his daughter, Agnes (Mrs. Jack Trollen) from 1938 to 1948 when he returned to Lindstrom for several years. For the past 5 years, he had again lived at the Trollen home.
Mr. Engstrand died on Nov 21 at Lakeside Memorial Hospital after a period of failing health. He was in the hospital for 3 days.
Among the surviving are 3 sons and a daughter, Roy, St. Paul, Victor, Shafer, Clint, Wichita, KS, Mrs. Jack Trollen (Agnes), Pine City, 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren.
