My paternal Grandfather. He was born in Elm River Township, Illinois. He and Grandma were both school teachers early in their marriage. Later on he became a merchant. Then in the 1940's he was elected Mayor for 2 terms.

He and Grandma could squeeze a nickel and make a dime. An example of how thrifty they were was the fact that they put all four of their children through college during the Great Depression! This resulted in my father and uncle becoming physicians, my aunt a school teacher and my other uncle a Certified Public Accountant. Go ahead, try doing that right now with 4 kids and see how far you get.
