Mrs. Wilhelmina Proehl
----------
On December 31, 1928 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Wm. Hardekopf at Alexandria occurred the death of Mrs. Wilhelmina Proehl at the age of 77 years. About seven years ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she had never fully recovered but the immediate cause of her death was heart failure following a serious attack of the Flu. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1 'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hardekopf and burial took place in the Parkers Prairie cemetery beside her husband who died just a year ago. Rev. J. Edor Larson conducted the funeral services.

Mrs. Wilhelmina Proehl, daughter of Johan and Augustina Grosenick was born in Stetting, Proving of Pommern, Germany, Nov. 18, 1851. The family came to America in 1862 and located first in Milwaukee, Wis., where they remained until 1866 when they moved to Cologne, Minn. Here she was united in marriage on May 17, 1868 to Carsten Henry Proehl and they immediately set out for Otter Tail county to establish their home. They joined a caravan of prairie schooners drawn by oxen and after a journey of two weeks arrived at their destination. The entire caravan consisting of about 15 families, settled in Leaf Valley and Effington townships. Mr. and Mrs. Proehl took a homestead in Effington which was at that time an un-surveyed wilderness and here they resided until 4 year ago when they moved to Alexandria where they lived until their death. Since the death of her husband, a year ago, Mrs. Proehl has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Hardekopf.

To Mr. and Mrs. Proehl were born eleven children, eight of whom survive their parents. Carl, the oldest and Wm. and Minnie, the two youngest preceded their parents in death. The following are the surviving children: Mrs. John Diekow, Parkers Prairie; Henry Proehl of Alexandria; Mrs. Robert Lewis, of Lutsen; Fred of Minneapolis; Mrs. Wm. Hardekopf, Alexandria; Herman of Parkers Prairie; Mrs. Wm. Glebe, Evansville; and Mary of Jamestown, N.D. There are also 26 grand children and 11 great grandchildren. The married grandchildren are: Mrs. Albert Meissner, Mrs. Oscar Newhouse, Mts. Theo. Plaster, Mrs. John Magnuson, Mrs. Peter Hink, Jr., and Mrs. Albert Wilke of Parkers Prairie.
