Mrs. Augusta Lauermann, one of the very early pioneers, and a resident of Douglas County for about sixty years passed away last Thursday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Blackwell of Holmes City. She had been in failing health for somet ime, but was not confined to her bed, being up and about the house until the day of her death.
August Lauermann was born March 9, 1849 at Pommern, Germany and had reached the age of seventy-eight years. She came to America with her parents in 1864, coming to Carver county, where on September 30, 1867 she was married to Phillip Lauermann and they came to Douglas County, taking a homestead in Leaf Valley township where they lived until the year 1875 when they moved to Lake Mary township. They lived there until 1898 when they moved to Alexandria where Mr. Lauermann passed away. After the death of her husband she made her home with her children. About a year ago she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Blackwell, where her death occurred.
Eleven children were born to them, six of whom preceded her in death. the children who are left to mourn her passing are, Mrs. A. H. Kaun of Brainerd, Mrs. J. H. Britton of New Salem, North Dakota, Mrs. Wm. Blackwell of Holmes City, Mrs. Lena Cordes of Minneapolis and Fred Lauermann of this city. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Vaugren, of Leaf Valley and Mrs. Minnie Proehl of Alexandria and one brother, Carl Grosenick also of here, and eight grandchildren.
The children were all here for the funeral which took place Saturday afternoon from the home of her son, Fred; Rev. C. E. Hansen in charge and from the German Lutheran church in charge of Rev. A. Bartz. She had been a member of the German Lutheran church for thirty years. She was laid to rest in Kinkead cemetery. The pallbearers were Olof Nass, Adolph Wagner, Conrad Lannes, Matt Haberer, Andrew Roth and Tom Barros.
