Roy E. Silvers, 90, of Oscoda, Mich, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Tawas St Joseph Hospital. He was born in Preble County, Ohio. Roy graduated from Dixon Township High School in 1937 and pursued a career in the United States Air Force. He served during World War II and his career spanned 20 years until his retirement at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda. Roy then worked in civil service at WAFB for the next 18 years. He was a member of Huron Archers at WAFB, Oscoda Sportsmen Club, Michigan Bowhunters, Michigan Snowmobile Association, Huron Snowmobile Assocation, AuSable Township Zoning Administration, Oscoda-AuSable Chamber of Commerce vice-president, past director of Military Retirees Office at WAFB, and a charter member and officer in the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1955. Roy is survived by his wife of 60 years, June R. Silvers (nee Vafidis), whom he marrried on June 26, 1948, in Eaton, Ohio; brother Gordon (Eleanor) Silvers of Eaton; sisters, Thelma (Ned) Rautsaw of Eaton and Irene Shinn of Grass Valley, Calif; and grandson Shaun (Sherry) Wright of Eugene, Ore. He was preceded in death by his only daughter, Mollie A. Wright, on June 4, 1997; and his parents, Otto (June 1, 1980 and Clara Silvers (March 22, 1975). A graveside service as held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 26 at Oscada Pinecrest Cemetery. Arrangements were by Buresh & Benett Funeral Homes Inc. of Oscoda, Mich.
