Edwin “Ted” Cook
December 7, 1909 –April 27, 1998
Edwin “Ted” Cook, 88, of Green River, Wyoming, died Monday, April 27, 1998 at South Lincoln Memorial Center in Kemmerer.
A long-time resident of Green River, Mr. Cook had been in ill health for the past eight months.
He was born in Knight, Wyoming, on December 7, 1909, the son of the late William and Harriett Brown Hutchinson Cook, Sr. He attended schools in Cumberland, Kemmerer and Knight.
Mr. Cook married the former Lillian Cross on November 18, 1932 in Randolph, Utah. Their wedding was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on June 28, 1968.
She preceded in death on April 15, 1976. He later married the former Vena Sweet on August 26, 1978 at the LDS Temple in Ogden, Utah. She also preceded him in death on December 26, 1986.
He worked as a sheepherder and a coal miner, and later for the Union Pacific railroad as a boilermaker in Green River. He later worked for the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office as a jailer and cook until his retirement.
Mr. Cook was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served as a high priest.
He was a member of the boilermakers’ union for the Union Pacific Railroad and was a union steward for many years.
He was also a member of the International Order of the Odd Fellows and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2350. Mr. Cook enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his three sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence L. And Christy Cook of Kemmerer; Edwin C. and Shirley Cook of Kemmerer; and Walter W. and Jackie of Green River; two daughters, Carol Lamar of Bridgeport, Washington and Karen Cook of Evanston; a brother, Lawrence L. Cook of Evanston; a sister, Ida Lester of Riverton, Utah; 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; a daughter, Mary Catherine; a son, Gordon; three brothers, William, Eugene and Art Cook; five sisters, Lizzie Gilmore, Stella Pierce, Kate Williams, Velma Tomasini and Florence Goddard; three granddaughters, Rebecca Cook, Dawn Marie Lamar and Annette Cook; five grandsons, Billy Lamar, Jr., Jacob Cook and three who died in infancy; and a son-in-law, Billy Ray Lamar, Sr.
Funeral service will be conducted on Friday, May 1, 1998 at 1 p.m. at the LDS stake center, 120 Shoshone Avenue in Green River, where friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., and again on Friday morning until the time of the services.
Interment will be in River View Cemetery in Green River.
