He was born on April 25, 1923, in Olds, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Myrtle Warner Fishel. He married Shirley Irene Cooper on Dec. 1, 1946, in Knoxville, Illinois. She preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Sherry (Peter) Brown of Galesburg, Illinois, and Merry (Mitchel) Perkins of Wetumpka, Alabama; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth (Mary) Fishel of Elmwood, Illinois; and one sister, Bessie King of Yates City, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and his wife.
He attended school in Yates City, Illinois. He worked for Daltons Garage in Yates City, and then worked as a school bus driver for the Yates City School District for four years. He later worked in the Maytag's fabrication department Maytag for over 35 years; he retired from Maytag in 1988.
He was a member of the former United Steel Workers Union 2063 of Galesburg, Illinois, now the United Steel Workers Union 1010 of Burlington, Iowa.
He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Knoxville, Illinois.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at 2:30 p.m. at the Yates City Cemetery in Yates City, Ill. Rev. Michel D. Clark will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Ill.
