John M Shank, 71, local farmer, died at 2 pm Sunday in his home six miles northeast of Wakarusa. Mr Shank had been ill for some time and death was due to complications.

He was born July 29, 1884, in Harrison township, the son of David and Lena (Seitz) Shank.

His marriage to Agnes Christophel took place Aug 4, 1904, and they have resided at their present home for many years. He was a member of the First Christian Church here.

Surviving are the widow and 10 children: sons, Alvin of South Bend, Ray of Goshen, Kenneth of Middletown, O, and Donald and Kermit of Elkhart; five daughters, Mrs Harold (Gladys) Ganger and Mrs Paul (Lucille) Messner of Elkhart, Mrs Merle (Florence) Schwalm and Mrs Calvin (Irma) Mishler of Goshen and Mrs Merle (Marjorie) Stephens of Niles, Mich; 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Sam (Edna) Pletcher of northeast of Wakarusa.

The funeral was held at 2 o’clock this Wednesday afternoon in the First Christian Church, the Revs M S Kulp pastor, and W E Manges of the Bethel U M church in charge. Burial was in Yellow Creek Cemetery.

Friends were received at the Lienhart Funeral Home until 1 o’clock Wednesday when the body was taken to the church.
