Alice M. Durant, 101, of Chatham died peacefully on August 15, 2011. She was the daughter of the late William and Ameliah (Spinney) McGuirk. Alice was born and raised in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia.

After graduating from high school, Alice attended the Teachers College in the city of Boston, and Bridgewater State College. She was an elementary school teacher and taught in Boston, Dedham and Yarmouth. She retired in 1972 and moved to Chatham from West Yarmouth in 1974.

Alice is survived by a nephew and two cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Durant, and her three brothers, George McGuirk, Leo McGuirk, and William McGuirk.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 18, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Rd., Chatham. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 19, at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Parish, 57 Highland Rd., Chatham. Burial will follow at Seaside Cemetery.
