The sudden and unexpected passing of Mrs. Emma Klosterhoff, wife of Mr. Otto Klosterhoff, reminds us again that God moves in mysterious ways, and that our ways are not His ways and our thought are not His thoughts.
Emma Klosterhoff, nee Gerken, was born at Brenham, Texas, on December 2, 1893, and was baptized into the name of the triune God on December 31 of the same year. She moved with her parents to Fort Bend County, and was confirmed at Immanuel's Church, Needville, Texas, May 24, 1908, by Rev. F. Piepenbrock. On January 18, 1913, she was united in holy wedlock to Otto Klosterhoff, and this union was blessed with six children. Since her marriage, the deceased lived in the Cottonwood community.
The deceased seemed to be in good health, although those who knew her more intimately knew that she had been suffering with high blood pressure for about ten years. Friday morning, November 19, she went about her work as usual, but shortly before noon she suffered a stroke from which she never recovered, God taking her spirit unto himself at about 2:30 that afternoon. She lived to the age of 43 years, 11 months and 17 days. Had she been spared a few months longer, she would have been able to celebrate her 25th Wedding Anniversary on January 18, 1938 as she had been planning.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her husband, Otto Klosterhoff; six daughters, Mrs. George Thielemann, Nora, Mrs. Arthur Dannhaus, Alma, Helen, and Emma Lee; and one grandson, Jean Arthur Dannhaus; her father, Henry Gerken; her mother, Mrs. Anna Kuecke; 7 brothers, Herman and Henry of Beasley, Willie and Freddie of Pleak, Johnnie and Bennie of Needville, and Herbert who is at home; 3 sisters, Mrs. Hanna Miller and Mrs. Minnie Schultz of Needville, and Mrs. Max Band of Rosenberg.
The following neighbors and relatives acted as pallbearers: Henry Wehring, Fred Rosenbaum, Herbert Kroesche, Aug. Schmidt, Otto Lampe, Louis Muegge, Henry Schmersahl, Herbert Bettin, Walter Ellermann, Hy. Duesterhoff, Ernest Meseeke, Hy. Kueck. The funeral service was conducted in the Cottonwood Evangelical Church, and interment took place in the Cottonwood Cemetery. The deceased was a member of the Cottonwood Evangelical Church and its Women's Union; a faithful wife, loving mother and all who knew her, mourn her passing.
