Ethel attended Dewolfe Grammar School and Fowler Union High School in Fowler, California.
Ethel married Howard M. Beary in Fresno, CA and from this union one daughter, Erma Lee Casey was born in 1931. In 1941, Ethel married Julius Brown and gave birth to Julius Michael in 1943.
Ethel's love for cooking led her into the career of catering. Her expertise and craftsmanship skyrocketed her into the homes of the rich and famous with everything from canapes to creme brule. Ethel could also whip up chitterlings, a mess of greens, cornbread, and out of this world monkey bread.
Her New Year's parties were legendary. She was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church in Los Angeles, and was instrumental in setting up and coordinating bake sales and dinners at the church. Everybody loved Ethel. She was also a member of the "Morning Glory Circle" at the church for many years.
As one of the founding members of the Young Family Reunion, Ethel put much time and energy into planning each event because family was so important to her. Ethel was an active and faithful long-time member of the "Native California Club" were she served in many capacities.
"Momma Brown", "Nano", "Ethel Mae", were names affectionately given to her by some who were very dear. Before her health began to fail, she could be called upon anytime day or night by anyone to lend a helping hand. She was a stranger to no one ...often opening the doors to her home to friends in need.
Ethel leaves to cherish her precious memories: her very devoted son Julius Michael Brown; daughter-in-law Jacqueline Brown; one granddaughter Susan Johnson, Los Angeles, CA; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Lathrop, Michelle and Rachel Johnson; two nephews, Vossa Wysinger, Jr, Berkeley, CA; Henry Franklin, Sr., Perris, CA; many nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends in Northern, Southern and Central California; a very special thanks to those loved ones who were very close to her in her twilight years: CeeBee Franklin, Mary Season, Sue and Billy Johnson, Joyce Lindsey, Cheryl Ashley and Ann Anderson.
