BIDDEFORD JOURNAL - 3 August 1896:
********************************
Mrs. Genevieve Gowen, died in her home
this afternoon after a lingering illness.
She was the wife of Captain Erwin S. Gowen.
She was a lady possessing many friends, among whom she was well loved and highly respected. A few years ago she was active socially, and was a central figure at many a fashionable gathering. Failing health, however, and attention to domestic duties caused her
to lead a more quiet home life in recent years, but she has always retained the warm friendship of many girl companions.
