Catherine spent her childhood at "Longwood" and married 12/14/1835 (1) Nathaniel Abraham Venable, M.D. (Univ. of Penn.) of "Tip Top", P.E. Co, VA, son of William Lewis Venable & Francis Watkins Nantz of "Haymarket", P.E Co, VA. She married second 9/26/1855 (2) Albert Gallatin McGehee of "Prairie Home" Lowndes Co, AL. She was his second spouse. Her life took her through much loss of property and family. The following was observed of her in a 10/11/1889 letter by Joseph Chappell Hutcheson to his daughter, Elise: "Stella seems delighted with her new school-so is Mildred-spent last Saturday with Prof. Venable's family. (Prof. Charles Scott Venable) Saw your Aunt Kate McGehee. Whom she says seldom speaks a word. I suspect her life since the war has been a bitter trial with poverty, was very wealthy before-but all went with the fortunes of the Confederacy." She had no children.
