Eckhaus, Alfred
89, of Phoenix/Scottsdale passed away on July 28, 2011 in Phoenix after a long series of illnesses. He, and the former Hilda Kisner, his high school sweetheart, were married for 67 years and were devoted to each other. Al spent most of his career working for Ford dealers in various parts of the country, finally settling in Scottsdale, Arizona. Many years ago he owned Garden State Inventory Svc in NJ, in partnership with his dear friend, Howard Steiner. Al had an incredible sense of humor throughout his life that endeared him to his many friends. He was a character to the end. When Hilda passed away in March 2010, he lost his lust for life, but had settled comfortably at Emeritus of Phoenix, where he was treated with dignity, respect, and loving kindness. He had a semblance of normalcy there and could be alone or with others, and became a regular at the blackjack table. He especially enjoyed meal time as food has always been near and dear to his heart. Toward the end, he did lose some of his world-renowned, rotund "tummy." His family, daughter Linda DeGise of Phoenix, daughter Barbara Jacobi of St. Augustine, Florida, son-in-law Jake Jacobi of St. Augustine, Florida, grandson Joseph DeGise III of Portland, Oregon, granddaughter Ilyssa DeGise of Naples, Florida, and great grandson Alec Beauchamp, Jr. of Naples, Florida, will miss him terribly. The family is thankful they had him in their lives for so many years. They are at peace knowing he will be reunited with his loving wife. The family welcomes friends on Monday, from 10:00am to 11:00am at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale, Arizona. Burial will follow at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix. For his service in World War II, he will be buried with full military honors, on Monday at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in his name to Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona, Alzheimer's Foundation of America, or the National Kidney Foundation .
