Son of Friderich Gottlob and Fredericka Ditz.
He come to the United States in December 1853 with his parents and siblings on the ship, New England. They lived at Anton, Madison County, Illinois.
He served with Co. A of the 9th Illinois Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War as a Sergeant and later promoted to a 2nd Lieutenant. During an engagement at Fort Donelson he suffered from severe exposure, the effects of which bothered him the rest of his life.
The 1870 census for Clinton, Iowa shows Theodore with wife, Pauline, and child, William, 2 yrs old. Theodore worked in a hotel. They were divorced in September, 1875.
Military papers lists their children as Wiiliam and Amelia Gottlob. Pauline Franceska Pfelffer, born in Germany, remarried in 1878 to E. W. Thomas and she died in 1930.
On November 29, 1883, Theodore married Mrs. Catherine Hahl Misch (widow of Michael Misch) at Madison County, Illinois. They were the parents of:
