Fritz Gottlob married Fredrecika Dietz in Germany in 1833; he immigrated to the United States in 1853, arriving 27 December at New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana. He was listed as 43 years old, born in Prussia, a farmer. Ship - New England; departure port - Bremerhaven; destination - St. Louis (U. S., Germans to America Index, 1850-1897). Sons Heinrich, 18, Joseph, 16, and Theodore, 11 were also listed. Newspapers stories about the trip from Bremerhaven, leaving on Oct. 30, with 465 passengers, shows that over 70 people died due to lack of food and water. On December 18, 1854, Fritz's wife, Fredrecika, 45, and children - Theresa, 15; Johann, 9; Wilhelm, 9; Bertha, 7; Maria, 5; and Carolina, 3 yrs. old, arrived in New Orleans on the ship Roland, from Bremen, Germany. Fritz became a U.S. naturalized citizen in 1858.
Fritz's wife died in 1868. He is listed on the 1870 census at Alton, Illinois with William, 26; Sophie, 18; Caroline, 20, and Fritz, 13; he was in retail grocery. In the 1880 census at Alton, Illinois, he is listed with daughter, Amelia Altand and her family.
