Wilson was the youngest of six children born to Townsend and Margaret (Moore) Cresse. His siblings were James, Rachel, Mary F. (m. Jesse W. Bennett), Daniel Townsend (m. Martha Bender) and Ruth (m. Thomas Ellwood Shaw) Cresse.
He was born about 1849 in Tippecanoe County, Indiana.
He married Lucy Cox Dec. 28, 1876 in Marion County, Indiana. They had three children, Amy Blanche, Harry T. and Richard L. Cresse.

Wilson Cresse of the firm of Cox & Cresse died yesterday morning at 9:30 o'clock of consumption at his residence on Elm street south of the L.B. & W. railroad. The funeral services will take place tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock from the house. The interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
