Born in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late Isaiah Hutson and Rodell Gleaton Hutson. He was a member of Pinehill Freewill Baptist Church of the Pentecostal Faith, had retired from Dayco and served in the National Guard.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Lucy Davis Hutson; daughters, Rita (Rockie) Roberts, Kaye (Edward) Givens all of Blackville; sisters, Adelle McKenna of Healing Springs, Virginia Miller of Neeses, Joann Adams of Aiken; brother, Isaiah "Buster" Hutson, Jr. of Springfield; grandchildren, Hope (Michael) Maxwell, Hollie (Laverne) Fail, Ryndi Givens Joyner, Edwards Givens, III; great-grandchildren, Betheney Maxwell, Johnathan Maxwell, Haley Moski, Conner Fail and Danielle Glass. He was predeceased by brothers, Laverene, Lonell, Joseph "Sumter" and Woodrow Hutson.
