Capt. George V. Maverick, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Maverick, San Antonio, was born April 16, 1880. He enlisted May 8, 1917, joining the First Officers' Training School at Leon Spring. Went to France in Sept. 1917, and attended the French Military School at Fontainebleau, after which he was assigned to 17th F. A., 2nd Div., taking part in battles at Chateau Thierry and Soissons. In August, 1918, he received orders to return to the United States as an instructor at Camp Stanley, which assignment he held until discharged Jan. 15, 1919.
