Joe Augustine, 91, formerly of 307 E.14th, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1992 at Hays Good Samaritan Center. He was born Aug. 10, 1901 in Bukovina Province, to Joseph and Barbara (Koppel) Augustine Sr.

He married Cunnigunda Korbe May 6, 1921 in Ellis. She died Aug. 25, 1970.

He worked in the flour mill for many years and then as a custodian of Hays USD 489 at Lincoln School. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He had been a resident of the Hays Good Samaritan Center for three months.

Survivors include five sons, Marvin, Ralph, Robert and Lavern, all of Hays, and Francis, Salina; three daughters, Mary Ann Whitaker, Emporia, Josephine Urban, Ellis, and Norman Weigel, Hays; a brother, John, Hays; two sisters, Mary Landreth, Denver, and Clara Hurst, Dallas; 32 grandchildren, five step grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Alfred, and a daughter, Lucille.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Father Carl Kramer officiating; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. A parish vigil is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel, 20th and :Pine. Visiting hours are from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
