Dennis Lee Barksdale Sr., age 60, beloved husband of 32 years to Janice Ruth Cox Barksdale, died on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 10, 1950, a son of the late Melvin and Nina Jean Alford Barksdale. Mr. Barksdale retired in 1989 from the U.S. Army and later worked for the Robbie D Wood Co. as a truck driver. He loved to fish and will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Christopher Alan Barksdale and his wife, Margaret, of Fort Hood, Colo., Daniel Lee Barksdale of Columbia and Dennis Lee Barksdale Jr. of Sumter; three daughters, Crystal Barksdale Foil of Columbia, Christina Edwards of Walterboro and Sheila Barksdale of Sumter; one brother, Ronnie Barksdale; and three sisters, Vickie Barksdale Oday of Houston, Nina Barksdale and Melanie Barksdale of Rushville, Ind.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Barksdale.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bullock Funeral Home.
