A native of Indiana, he was a son of the late Melvin and Nina Barksdale and was a longtime resident of the Sea Pines community. He was a commercial fisherman, beekeeper and woodworker and was a beloved family member.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Barksdale; sons, Ronald Drake of High Point and Yogi Martin of Southport; daughters, Tonya Watkins of Southport and Michelle Brown of Winnabow; grandchildren, Aprilynn, Jessica, Kimie, Brandon and Dana; granddaughter, Elissa. Also surviving are five sisters, including Rita of Wilmington and Tony Kay of Sunset Harbor; and five brothers, including Gary Shirley of Long Beach Road.
