PETERSBURG,WEST VIRGINIA -- Carl Jacob Thorne, 88, of Petersburg, died Thursday, July 14, 2011, at his home.
He was born Nov. 10, 1922, in Dorcas, W.Va., and was a son of the late George A. Thorne and Vernie (Mongold) Thorne.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Georgia Mae Stump; and two brothers, Cletus Thorne and Conway Thorne. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Thorne was a lifetime farmer and long time mechanic. He was owner and operator of Golden Lanes Bowling Alley in Petersburg since 1973.
He was a member of the Brake Church of the Brethren and had served as deacon.
Survivors are his wife of 70 years, Lena (Vance) Thorne; one daughter, Sue Earle and husband Willard of Petersburg; two sons, C. Delmas Thorne and wife Shirley of Woodbridge, Va. and Randy W. Thorne and wife Dianne of Petersburg; eight grandchildren, Kassie Genovere, Terry Thorne, Heather Cox, Erica Thorne, Sarah Metheny, Derek Thorne, Willard "Boog" Earle and Mitch Earle; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends Saturday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home
Funeral services will be Sunday 2 p.m. at the Brake Church of the Brethren with Pastor Craig Howard officiating.
Interment will be in the Brake Cemetery at Dorcas, W.Va.
