Mother of Samuel Vinton Pierce was Elizabeth Pierce (1833-?) daughter of Horace (1795-1872) and Anna Robbins Pierce (1795-1881).

In Dec 22, 1850 Elizabeth age 17 married a John Bagley two months after Samuel Vinton was born in Oct of 1850. It is not believed that John Bagley was his father but he used his stepfathers name for a few years.

Sometime before 1860 Samuel Vinton (Bagley) was taken by his mother Elizabeth to the home of his grandparents Horace and Anna Pierce and his mother left him there. It is reported that she never came back for him. It is unkown if she and John Bagley went on with their lives or if she died.

By 1870 Samuel Vinton (now only known as Vinton) was still being raised by his grandparents and he is now using the name Pierce not Bagley. He was trained by his grandfather, now considered to be his father, to be a carpenter as Horace was a master carpenter.

At age 22, Samuel Vinton Pierce married Clara Isadore Guss on Mar, 9, 1873 in Girard, Crawford, Kansas. They had eight children, two died within a year and the other six lived, grew up and married.
For approximately thirty years his occupation was a carpenter and he was know as S.V Pierce. Then at age fifty in 1900 Census he listed his occupation as a mechanic.

He was active in several lodges such as the Mclennan Lodge I.O.O.F, and at the time of his death was the Deputy Grand Master of the Odd Fellows Lodge.

S.V also was identified with the Waco Fire Department since 1886 and was with the Engine Company NO 1. For a long time prior to his death he was the Secretary of the Waco Fire Department. His name is written on the Waco Fire Dept. Memorial located at the First Street Cemetery under Company No 1.

The Waco Newspaper of 1901 has his obit stating that at age 51 S.V. died at home on July 27, 1901 - of Typhoid Fever /Consumption.
