Aged 68..."reared in Marion county, Oregon, coming to this county and settling on a farm on Whetstone forty years ago. He was married here to Miss Nancy Jane BYRD. He was a man of big intellect and big heart though somewhat eccentric. Until he was afflicted five years ago in June with a paralytic stroke from which he never recovered, he was acknowledged to be one of the best informed men in Southeast Washington.
The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nancy Jane Markham; a daughter Mrs. Ella Baker of Kahotus; two sons, Ernest and Walter Markham, living at home and two brothers, the noted Edwin Markham, and Warren Markham of California."...Obit Columbia Chronicles, Dayton WA, 6 Oct 1909, Page 3.
