3. Leland Warren Browne
Born at the Site of the Carden Theater in Kansas City, Missouri.
Educated in the schools of Kansas City, Missouri, and at the Wyandotte Academy in Kansas City, Kansas.
Went to work in the private banking house of Northrop & Son. After a year, Evan joined his father's company in Socorro, New Mexico, giving him assistance in the merchantile business and was clerk and cashier in a small bank there. During the four year experience, he gained an insight into business methods and expedients which he found useful in the larger affairs with which he has since became connected. Upon his return to Kansas City, Kansas, he accepted the position of paying teller with the Northrop Banking Company, then doing business at the corner of 5th and Minnesota.
In 1894 Evan was the main organizer of the Merchants State Bank, which he was manager for 11 years. The business was prosperous and in 1905 it was consolidated with the Commercial National Bank, and Evan disposed of his interest.
Very soon afterwood, Evan re-entered business, by organizing a machinery supply manufacturing agency, of which he was the manager for three years, selling out at that time and becoming general manage of the Hancher-Hawkins Manufacturing Company, which manufactured loose-leaf books. The company was later sold to a Chicago firm.
In 1915 Evan was tendered a position of Cashier of the Minnesota Avenue State Bank.
Evan Browne and Family were of the Congregational Church.
He was a member of the Elks Club, and the Knights of Pythias. He was also one of the founder of the Mercantile Club
