Patty Rae Campbell Barron, departed this world on Friday, July 8, 2011, after an extended course with Alzheimers disease.

She was born March 10, 1923. She was an example of love and courage to all.

Patty was the daughter of Thaniel Burn and Annabelle Campbell, of Council, NC. She was devoted wife of the late Noel D. Barron Sr. for 67 years, with whom she is again reunited.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson, Andrew Durham, of Atlanta, GA, her sister, Marie Davis, her brothers, Mac Campbell, Neil Campbell, Paul Campbell, and Burke Campbell, all of North Carolina.

Patty grew up in a farming community in Bladen County, North Carolina. She graduated from Pineland College and was an elementary school and music teacher for several years. Patty moved to Wilmington, NC to work in the shipyard during the war. She met and married Noel Douglas Barron Sr. in 1942. They moved to Chattanooga, TN in 1945 where Patty was employed by BlueCross Insurance until the birth of her children. She was active in her church and community. She worked in the offices of both Mayors Pat Rose, and Robert Kirk Walker of Chattanooga, TN. Patty also served as administrative assistant to the Headmistress at the Bright School. After Noels retirement they volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels to shut-ins throughout the Chattanooga community.

Even as her illness progressed, she retained all the selflessness, grace, beauty, and quiet strength that she exhibited throughout her life. She was above all things true to her Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ, until her death.

She will be greatly missed by her family, her friends, the congregation of Signal Mountain Baptist Church, and the staff at Alexian Brothers of Signal Mountain, TN. Well done thou good and faithful servant.

She was a gentle and loving mother of Patti (Gary) Durham, of Macon, GA, Lora (John) Long and Noel D. (Nancy) Barron Jr., of Signal Mountai, TN. She was a nurturing grandmother to Andrew and Joey Durham, Aaron, Scott, and Katherine Long, Anna, Mary and Rachel Barron and six great-grandchildren.

Patty leaves behind her brother, Daniel Campbell, of Ringgold, GA.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the North Chapel on Highway 153.

Graveside services for Pat will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Dr. Bill Dudley officiating.

The family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the staff at Alexian Brothers of Signal Mountain for their wonderful compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, Hixson, TN.
