He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Jane Murphy Campbell on September 23, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Dr. G. Westbrook Murphy & Olive Webb Murphy from Asheville, NC.
Dan served in the United States Navy during WWII as a Yeoman Third Class. He was born in Carvers Creek, NC in 1927 to Thaniel & Anna Belle Campbell.
He was the youngest sibling of eight children and was preceded in death by Anna, Neil, Mac, Marie, Burke, Paul, and Patty.
He was employed by Interstate Life Insurance Company from 1956-1980 and was Director of Data Processing. They moved to Jacksonville, FL and worked for Gulf Life Insurance for eleven years. While in Jacksonville, he was involved in church planting for Christ Presbyterian Church which is where they attended.
After retiring in 1991, he and Jane moved back to Chattanooga to be closer to grandchildren. They joined Covenant Presbyterian Church. He and Jane spent the past six years living at Hickory Valley Retirement Center making many close friends.
Dan was the most kind, generous and loving dad, granddaddy and father-in-law to his daughter, Beverly (Russ) Roop, grandsons, Sam and Adam Roop; son Walter (Amy) Campbell, grandsons, Westbrook and David Campbell; and several nieces and nephews.
He will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery
