Mrs. Eliza Jane Barnhill of Kirksville, widow of Simpson Barnhill, both of whom were natives of Knox County, died at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, March 14, 1967, at the home of her son, George W. Barnhill of Marceline. She was 96 years old and had made her home with the son since Dec. 26, 1966.
Eliza Jane Smith was born April 23, 1870 to Uriah Porter and Laura Pinkston Smith. She married Simpson Barnhill on Feb. 15, 1891, in Brashear. They lived outside of Hurdland for a time and then moved to Atlanta and has lived in Kirksville since 1947. Mr Barnhill died Oct. 9, 1964, at the age of 95. Mrs. Barnhill was a member of the Brashear Methodist Church.
Besides the son George, she is survived by two other sons, Franklin Barnhill of Kirksville and Porter Barnhill of Quincy, two grandsons, Harold F. Barnhill of Galesburg, IL and Elwood Barnhill of Hurdland, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Lottie Holman of Kirksville.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mrs Ella McGlothlin and Mrs Ethel Knaack, two brothers, Lee and William Smith and two great grandsons, Harold Lee and Harold Francis.
Funeral services are at 3:30 this afternoon, Thursday, at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel with the Rev. E. E. Hembree, paster of the Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Linville Cemetery.
