Verl was born on October 14, 1926 in Garland, Utah, a son of Ivrin Spackman and Alta Alexandria Hales Coombs. Verl was raised and educated in Fielding and graduated from Bear River High School and LDS Seminary and was a member of the FFA and the basketball team.
He married Melba Gean Hurd on April 21, 1950, in the Logan LDS Temple.
Verl had been employed as a masonry contractor, welder, electrician and had worked for Box Elder County Road Department, Harris Truck and Equiptment and U & I Sugar Company.
He was a member of the Plymouth Roping Club, Utah National Cattlemans' Association and AQHA.
He enjoyed hunting, water skiing, cowboy poetry and horses.
He was a member of the Hampton Ford LDS Ward and had been a member of the 1949 All-Church Basketball Team, when they took runner-up in church competition.
As a Veteran of WWII, he served in the Air Force.
He was my love and my best friend and companion. He loved his children, grandchildern and family very, very much.
Surviving are his wife, Fielding, Utah; two daughters and one son and their spouses: Cathey Crowther, Langley, Washington; Vickie and Jim Davie, Seattle, Washington; Steve and Connie Coombs, Fielding, Utah; 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also three brothers and two sisters: Keith and Lola Coombs, Fielding, Utah; VerNon and Anna Marie Coombs, Salt Lake City, Utah; Theo and Norma Coombs, Tremonton, Utah, Doris Lamb, Plymouth, Utah; and Carol and Paul Forsberg, Fielding, Utah.
Burial was held in the Fielding City Cemetery, Fielding, Utah.
