Thad took his schooling at the Hill School, Princeton and the Univ. of Texas Law School. His grandfather had served Texas as a leader in the re enfranchised Democratic Party by becoming a US Congressman in the 1890s. Thad became a leader in the reawakened Texas Republican Party and was the nominating speaker at the 1952 Republican National Convention. In 1957 he ran and lost as a Republican for the U. S. Senate. That was his last race, but he remained a respected figure in the political landscape.
