He was born April 13, 1916, in St. Augustine, the son of Nelson Elwood and Laura Jane Conard Derry.
He married Darlene R. Dickson on April 29, 1944, in Waukegan.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Cheryl (and Sam) Parkins, Abingdon; two sons, Larry (and Kathy) Derry, rural Knoxville, and Denns Derry, in Oklahoma; three sisters, Pearl Schisler and Virginia Swank, both of Abingdon, and Doris Kohn, Green Valley, Ariz.; three brothers, Ivan Derry, Berwick, Harold Derry, Abingdon, and Robert Derry, Galesburg; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.
He lived all his life in the Abingdon and Galesburg areas.
He attended Muddy Corner School near Berwick and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
An Army veteran of World War II, he survived Pearl Harbor and was awarded the Bronze Star.
He farmed and worked at the former Gale Products division of Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg for 28-1/2 years. He retired in 1980.
He was of Baptist faith.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday i Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, with the Rev. Bob Malone officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Silent Home Cemetery near Cameron, with military rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381.
