He was born on June 8, 1919 in Knox County, the son of Nelson Elwood and Laura Jane (Conard) Derry. He married Lois M. Anno on June 22, 1940 in Burlington, Iowa. Lois preceded him in death on December 17, 1988. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Martha Deppe, six sisters and five brothers.
Ivan is survived by one son, Richard (and Erma ) Derry of Galesburg; one daughter, Joyce (and Jack) DeWeese of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Michelle Webber, Tracy Durre, Mark DeWeese and Ann Hare; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl Schisler and Virginia Swank, both of Abingdon; and several nieces an nephews and their families.
He had lived in the Berwick area most of his life. He farmed near Berwick and also worked at the Admiral Factory in Galesburg for 17 years. He was an avid horseman and raced and showed Trotter horses.
Graveside service will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. Rev. Tom Smith will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Saturday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
