Mr. Balton was born September 1, 1922, in Norway, SC, a son of the late Leo Wells Baltzegar and Clara McMillan Baltzegar. He retired from the A&P as Meat Market Manager and later also retired from the IGA. Mr. Balton was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church, Deacon Emeritus of the church, member of the Men's Fellowship and served as church custodian. He was also a cub scout master and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his child-ren: Steve Balton of Lake City, Kay B. Floyd and her husband, Jack of Turbeville and Randy Balton and his wife, Patricia of Lake City; sisters, Mateland B. Brown of Norway and Jean B. Bair of St. Matthews; brother, Jackie L. Baltzegar and his wife, Elaine of West Columbia; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Jane Balton; sisters, Juanita B. Berry and Vera B. Mount Wilson and a brother, Bobby L. Baltzegar.
