Simon G. Abbe was born on May 3, 1847 in Wilcox County AL. He was the son of John and Frances Abbe, natives of NY. His father died in 1862 leaving a widow and 7 children with no estate. His mother moved the family to LA. In 1869 he married Rosianna Favours of GA.
He came to TX in 1871 and settled in Navarro County where he engaged in farming. He sold his farm in 1881 and bought 165 acres of land in McLennan County where he moved that same year. Abbe operated 2 gins in McLennan County.
