Levi Aaron Abbe was born 12 December 1849 in Monroe County, Alabama, the son of John Sterling E. Abbe and Frances Stringer Abbe. He moved with his family to Caldwell Parish Louisiana. His father died in Calddwell Parish and after his father's death, he moved to Texas. He married Mary Emeline McCune on 21 June 1871 in Navarro County, Texas. Surviving him were his wife, and children, Frances Abbe, John Mitchell Abbe, Aaron Lee Abbe, Mary Rosalee Abbe and Levi Abner was born after his death.
Death records recorded his death as meningitis, but family stories said that he was bit by a skunk on his way home from work, and he died as a complication from that bite. However, he was a very young man when he died.
