*** "Willie" or "Greaser", as some older family members called him was the sixth of seven sons of W.O. Key, Sr. Four of the older brothers, Joe, Sam, Robert and Clarence, were his half-brothers by his dad's marriage to Mary Palmer. His father, W.O.Key, Sr. and his mother, Eula Elmira (White) raised seven children, Claude, Callie, Stella, Willie, Lawson, Thelma and Mildred, to adulthood.

His oldest brother, Joe, had been with a few Wild West Shows before the early 1920's, and so started his own Key Bros. Wild West Show, with the help of other family members. Willie was one the saddle bronc riders and rope spinners and sometimes the target for his brother, Claude "Buck", to throw knives at. The Key Bros. show ran for thirteen years from 1916 until the death of Joe, in 1928 caused the show to close in 1929. The Key brothers were all natural showmen, being raised on a farm and competing in their own family rodeos, so being involved with Joe's Wild West show was an easy, early decision to be made by all of them.
