Vernell Gunter Lee, 82, died Saturday morning (July 2, 2011) at her residence following an extended illness.

She was a native of Pierce County but had lived in the Schlatterville Community of Brantley County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Lloyd Gunter and Susie Altman Gunter. She graduated from Hoboken high School.

She was formerly employed with Rubin Brothers Footwear in Waycross for thirty eight years before working as a Nutrionist at Hoboken Elementray School for sixteen years. She had also worked in the Infant Room of the Second Baptist Church Childcare Learning Center. She and her husband had also served as foster parents through the Brantley County Department of Family and Children Services for eighteen years.
She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and the Adult 5 Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-two years, Eugene Lee of Schlatterville; a son, Ricky Lee (wife Connie) of Schlatterville; three grandchildren, Corlee DeVane (husband Eli) of Waycross, Ethan Lee and Lindsey Lee of Schlatterville; a great granddaughter, Claira DeVane of Waycross; three sisters, Agnes Hickox (husband Eugene) of Brantley County, Yevonne Petty (husband Harold) of Marietta, and Teresa Taylor (huband Calvin) of Brantley County; a brother, H.L. Gunter (wife Ginger) of Brantley County; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday (July 4, 2011) at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Burial will be in High Bluff Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday at Music Funeral Home.
