Mrs. Lucy Evelyn Dye, age 88, of the Lynn Springs section of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (June 29, 2011) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born March 29, 1923 in West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Millie Gilbert Street. She had spent most of her life in the area, was of the Freewill Baptist faith and a member of Fullers' Chapel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Dye, one daughter, Mary Magdalene Lester, two granddaughters, three grandsons, two brothers, and eight sisters. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include four daughters, Arbutus Dye and husband, Perry, Rosie Hubbard and husband, Danny, Helen Whited and husband, Ellis all of Swords Creek; Della Mae Spencer and husband, Fairley of Honaker; four sons, Chester Dye and wife, Nancy, Lee Dye and wife, Linda, Cecil Dye and wife, Shelia, and Tommy Dye and wife, Marlene all of Swords Creek; son-in-law, Virgil Lester; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. David Perkins and Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Dye Cemetery at Swords Creek, Virginia.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and granddaughters will serve as flower girls.
Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 PM Friday where an evening service will be conducted at 7 PM with Rev. Steve Perkins officiating.
