Mr. Chester Elmer Dye, age 72, of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Monday (February 15, 2021) in Grundy, Virginia. Born June 24, 1948 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late James Edward and Lucy Street Dye. A lifelong resident of the area, he was of the Freewill Baptist faith. He was a disabled coal miner, working at several different area mines. He enjoyed hunting, but most of all spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Sue Hess Dye, and two sisters, Mary Magdalene Lester and her husband, Virgil, and Rosie Hubbard.
Survivors include his wife, Ebbie Hess Dye; two children, Doug Dye and wife, Teresa, and Tina Dye; grandchildren, Tiffany Roberts and husband, Kevin, and Brittany Dye; step-children, Marlena Dye and husband, Tommy, Linda Gibson and husband, Ray, Danny Hess and wife, Sandy, Ricky Hess and wife, Connie, C.A. Hess and wife, Judy; siblings, Tommy Dye and wife, Marlena, Lee Dye and wife, Linda, Cecil Dye and wife, Sheila, Arbutus Dye and husband, Perry, Helen Whited and husband, Ellis, and Della Spencer and husband, Farley; brother-in-law, Danny Hubbard; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Dallas Hubbard and Rev. Lenora Vanover officiating. Interment will follow in the Hess Cemetery at Swords Creek, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Coy Vanover, Jamie Dye, Dallas Dye, Chester Ball, Danny Hess, and Delmar Spencer.
Due to COVID restrictions mandated by the governor, a mask is required. For those unable or uncomfortable attending, the funeral service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page as well as our webpage
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Wednesday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
