Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. with the Rev. John Yingling officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and for an hour before the services Thursday at the church. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, with a flag presentation by VFW Post 1260.
Mr. Christenson was born Feb. 9, 1919, at Wilton to Lars and Julia Christenson. He grew up at Wilton and attended school through the eighth-grade. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps program near Cass Lake before entering the Army in 1941. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and was awarded the American Defense Service Medal and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star. He was discharged in 1945, returned to Bemidji and married Ilene Welch here June 21, 1946, he worked as a route salesman for the Hamm's Beer Distributing Co. for eight years, then for Bemidji Distributing for 25 years, retiring in 1981. He had played semi-pro baseball with Duluth Dukes in the 1940s and amateur baseball with the Bemidji Chiefs. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Teamsters Union and participated in curling, bowling, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Dan (Jill) Christenson of Bemidji and Ron (Liz) Christenson of Wrenshall; a daughter, Janice (Delbert) Mickalson of Bemidji; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and four sisters, Minnie (Andrew) Moe of East Grand Forks, Ella (Harold) Roberts of Bemidji, Agnes (Kenneth) Rogers of Tacoma, Wash., and Eleanor (Orville) Helm of Tenino, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister.
