Bernetta (Nettie) Tabeling, 92, died at 12:30 PM on Thursday (January 7, 2010) at Northwood Retirement Community.

She was born in Jasper, Indiana on October 24, 1917 to George and Rose (Henke) Hochgesang.

Surviving is a son, Evans McCandless and his wife(Nancy) of Arroyo Grande, CA

2 grandsons,
Daniel McCandless and his wife(Cathleen) of O'Fallon, MO
David, McCandless and is wife(Saman) of Peoria Heights, IL
3 great grandchildrens,
Laurel, Cale, and Kian McCandless.
She is also survived by2 brothers ,
Gilbert and Oscar Hochgesang both of Jasper, IN
3 sisters Jeanne Wagner, Gloria Wehr, and Roberta Neuhoff all of Jasper, IN

She was predeceased by her 1st husband, David Coy McCandless on Jan. 3, 1978 and 2nd husband, Henry Tabeling, on March 11, 1987. She was also predeceased by 3 brothers Victor, Carl, and Roman Hochgesang, and 4 sisters Florence Kessler, Carolyn Mehringer, Loretta, and Mary Catherine Hochgesang.

Nettie Tabeling worked at the Jasper Herald, Camelot Inn Motel, Post 147 American Legion, and Tenth Street School cafeteria. She was also well known for her quilting expertise and her Chicago Cubs loyalty. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Anne Society, VFW Auxiliary, and Senior Citizens Center.

The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday (January 11, 2010 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jasper with entombment in Fairview Mausoleum in Jasper.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 P.m. Sunday (January 10, 2010 at Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or a favorite charity.
