Oscar was born in Jasper, Indiana, on January 25, 1931, to George and Rose (Henke) Hochgesang. He married Betty Birk on May 17, 1951, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana. She preceded him in death on August 20, 1994.
He was a lifetime farmer, and his farm was recognized as a Hoosier Homestead in April of 2022.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana.
Oscar enjoyed Cincinnati Reds baseball, taking care of his chickens and cats, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are seven children, Marilyn (Clarence) Betz, Schnellville, IN, Gary (Kathy) Hochesang, St. Anthony, IN, Larry (Janice) Hochgesang, Ferdinand, IN, Michael (Bonnie) Hochgesang, Jasper, IN, Dan (Dee) Hochgesang, Huntingburg, IN, Jane (John) Schuetter, Jasper, IN, and Patty (Dan "Orphan") Lampert, Jasper, IN, 18 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, two sisters, Gloria Wehr, Velpen, IN, Roberta Neuhoff, Jasper, IN, and one brother, Gilbert Hochesang, Jasper, IN.
Preceding him in death are his wife, one son, Francis Hochgesang, and several sisters and brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
