He was a private in Sumter Light Infantry (militia) in 1910 (The Watchman and Southron., July 23, 1910, page 3). Perry went on 24 June 1916 by train from Sumter to the Mexican Border War as battalion sergeant of Third Battalion of the Second Regiment of S. C. National Guard (and a former Capt. of Sumter Light Infantry, his brother's memorial photos HERE...Capt. of Co. H, 118th Infantry, 30th Division). In 1918, he shipped to France in WWI. He & Aunt Mamie lived in the old Millvale Plantation house at Ellerbe's Mill in the Hagood section of Sumter Co., S. C...that old home having a couch which Pres. George Washington sat on when he came through S. C. They had no children.
