Elder Gus E. Walden, of Mitchell, Georgia, entered into rest Friday, September 17, 1976, at an Augusta hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mount Nebo Primitive Baptist Church with Elders V.F. Agan, Hughy Glisson and Cleon Radford officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Walden, Andy Walden, Allen Reynolds, don Reynolds, Bryon Snider, Jimmy Hutcheson and James Wilcher. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Mount Nebo and Sardis Primitive Baptist Churches. He was a native of Glascock County was a member of Mount Nebo Primitive Baptist Church, where he had served as pastor for 25 years. His Primitive Baptist pastorates included Bythinia, Sardis, Mount Union, Augusta, Tolberton, Smith Chapel, Union, Wrightsville and Swainsboro. He was a former mayor of Mitchell, tax appraiser of Glascock County, director of Civil Defense an a retired farmer. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lillie Mae Cox Walden; six sons, Arthur B. Walden, Statesboro, Ga., Horace Walden, Milledgeville, Tommy Walden, Mitchell, Sam Walden and Vance Brantley, Augusta, and Gilbert Brantley, Spokane, Wash., and three daughters, Mrs. Warren Reynolds, Sandersville, Ga., and Mrs. Harold Martin and Mrs. David Gilman, Milledgeville, Ga. Sheppard Funeral Home.
