She was born on July 2, 1946, in Springfield the daughter of William "Bill" and Mildred (Hennig) Weller.
She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1964 and received her Nursing diploma from the Springfield City Hospital School of Nursing in 1967. She worked in the newborn nursery and later served our country in the United States Air Force for four years as a Fight Nurse during the Vietnam era. After returning to Springfield, she began her career at Community Hospital. Diane was the first Nurse to establish health programs for the elderly. She returned to the School of Nursing as an Instructor and graduated from Indiana University and Wright State University with a Bachelor of Nursing. She received a Masters Degree in Sociology working with the elderly. Following her education she once again returned to the Springfield School of Nursing and became a Professor in Medical Surgical Nursing and taught until retirement in 2009. Diane was an athlete, especially in tennis. She started in the Howard Dredge Tennis Program during the early 50's and played in tournaments and matches around the state.
Diane is survived by her sisters: Barbara J. Weller, Janice E. Weller, brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Sue Weller; niece, Kari and Brett Griffith; great nephews: Logan, Ethan, and Mason; nephew, William K. Weller, and great nephews, Nicholas and Tyler Weller; and a great-great niece and nephews: Noah, Owen, Lilli, and Deacon; aunts: Janice Plank of Lansing, Michigan; and Maxine Steed of Hamilton, Ohio; special friends: Nancy Nickel, Jeanne Davis, Nan Gregory, Daryl and Gary, and all her co-workers at the School of Nursing; and her cat and dog, Millie and Betsy. She was preceded in by her parents, and brother, Jimmy.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY.
