Frank M. Lane.
Frank M. Lane was born in Owego, N. Y., Sept. 27, 1844, and departed this life at his home in. Kiowa, Kan., Tuesday morning, Oct. 26, 1904, at 5 o'clock, aged 60 years and 29 days. Thirty-four years ago the first of last February in the city of Owego, N. Y., he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Whyte of that city, where they continued to live for two years and a half, moving then to Fremont, Neb., which place they made their home until May, 1885, moving at that time to Kiowa, Kan. This union was blessed with one child, a daughter, Mrs. H. D. Records of this city, who, with the mother, survives. Mr. Lane served three years in the war of the rebellion as a member of Company C, One Hundred Thirty-seventh New York infantry and was a brave soldier. For 10 years he served as marshal of this city, dating back to a time when it tested a man's ability and coolness as a peace officer. As a citizen he was progressive and generous to all public enterprises and always extended a liberal hand to aid religious and educational institutions in their work for the betterment of mankind. He was a representative man, simple as a child, brave as a lion, of rare integrity, full of generous impulses and a steady friend. With high character and courtesy he possessed all the virtues and graces that ennoble human nature. True to all and false to none, be lived the life of the just, and peacefully and sweetly, with abiding faith in rest eternal, closed his eyes to mortal scenes. His fellow citizens mourn with us for the loss of this generous and true man.
