Louisa H. "Lou" Waite, 74, Eldon, died Sunday at her home. She was born June 29, 1919, in Tuscumbia, a daughter of Willard and Abbie Mitchell Abbett. She was married Oct. 4, 1946, in Eldon, to Norris Waite, who died Aug 27, 1992.

She attended Iberia Academy and graduated from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg. She taught at rural schools in Missouri and Kansas and later did substitute teaching in Eldon for 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Eldon; the Open Door Sunday School Class; AAUW; the Order of the Eastern Star; and Euterpean Club.

Survivors include: two daughters, Karen Conover, Jefferson City, and Martha Waite, Springfield; one son, Mark Waite, Dallas; one stepson, Shannon Waite, Mt. Vernon, Ill.; one brother, Homer Abbet, Eldon; her stepmother, Mary Abbett, Eldon; two grandsons and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Waite, and one son, Norris Waite Jr.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Michael Parris will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today. Memorials are suggested to Columbia Regional Hospice or First Baptist Church, Eldon.
